I’ve always been funny. At least I like to think I’m funny. Whatever I am…however funny or not funny…I’ve been this way since I was little. I love to make people laugh, especially at inopportune times.
Angry…I’ll find a way to make you laugh. Crying…yep, I’ll make you laugh or at least smile real big. Mopey…got it, I’ll make you laugh too.
At a young age, I learned to use laughter to diffuse people and situations. It didn’t always work, but it worked enough that it became a tool in my arsenal to protect myself…to keep me safe from escalating (d)anger.
I don’t need to use laughter in the same way or for the same purposes anymore. It’s no longer about protection. More than anything, it’s about helping others to shift their perspective…their mindset…to step out of whatever emotional sinkhole they’re in…and to laugh. To pause….laugh….breathe.
As long as we have laughter in our hearts…and a way to release it…we’ll always have the ability to lift ourselves up. It’s hard to be around someone that’s laughing and not laugh ourselves. That’s the point, laughter is contagious and so’s the good feelings that follow. All those endorphins that start firing up actually alter our mood.
Laughter has the power to heal our hearts…our souls.
No matter the mood you’re in today, take 3 minutes and watch this video. You’ll laugh a little and you might even cry a little…but it’ll be a good cry.
Now go make someone laugh.
